Mitchell's Black Earth Orchestra debuted Many Paths Meet the Sea: A Tribute to Alice Coltrane at Chicago's Millineum Park in summer 2007. Mitchell will perform it in Poland in November.
Nicole Mitchell wins Downbeat Critics Poll 2008
This year's Downbeat Critic's Poll placed Mitchell in the top ten for Rising Star Jazz Composers, and for Jazz Flute. Mitchell was also honored to win #1 in the Rising Star Flute category for 2008. It is her forth consecutive year to win #1 in the Rising Star Flute Category. Mitchell is extremely honored to receive these accolades.
